Our annual short film competition culminates, each year, in a celebration of film and filmmakers in Beer Town.

It’s a chance to find out more about our finalists and watch their entries; learn more about filmmaking and the film industry; to meet other filmmakers; to sample some of our famous beers and to see who will be the category winners and this year’s winner of the ‘Hop D’Or’ – the golden hop!

On Saturday 3rd October 2020, Beer Town Film Festival's; Director's Selection, Young Filmmaker and category winners were announced along with the a special category 'Lockdown' created by the judges to highlight the innovation and creativity within this year’s entries created since lockdown started. The judges allocated films specifically about lockdown or COVID into this category as well as the one they had entered.

This year brought many challenges, not least taking the festival online at the last minute due to COVID-19 restrictions on live events.

We received 750 entries, the final number after adjudication came to 739 (exactly the same amount as last year) across seven categories and totalled nearly 77 hours of film. A total of 42 films reached selection for screening at the festival which was held across three days via a series of Zoom events including a live Q&A with Steven Hartley, Actor and lead judge for Fiction Short.
